The right of asylum in enshrined in the French constitution, the Refugee Convention of 28 July 1951 ratified by France, and by European directives that created the « subsidiary protection », alternative form of asylum. Refugees are people in danger, persecuted because of their race, religion, nationality, membership in a social group or political opinions or simply unable to enjoy the protection of their State against the threats to their lives or freedom. They are therefore forced to leave their countries of origin.
